In this episode, we are proud to present to you Irú a condiment very popular among the Yoruba people and Edo people of Nigeria. This see is rich in protein and carbohydrates. I wish I could teach you how to make stew, Iru Pete. egusi soup, okro soup, Ewedu soup, or even ogbono soup using Irú. But if you know me, you will know I am bad at cooking. You know you are a bad cook when your dog goes to the neighbors’ to eat (what a shame). Don’t get me wrong. Cooking is easy. But it’s not easier than not cooking. Cooking refers to the process of combining ingredients, spices, and heating. Almost like chemistry. That’s why it’s not my forte. I am good at other things. Like researching why carrot is orange but orange is not a carrot. I also find myself writing about African Spices, food, drinks, and everything interestingly edible (except metals).

Iru is the king of all Nigerian condiments. Now go off and make an African inspired mouthwatering dish. My hope is that you will experience African culture through food wherever you are in the world. I like the fact that Africans living in the USA can now get African spices on Amazon.
